DESCRIPTION:Trees-as-a-Public-Good (AKA TreesPG) holds networking meetings on the first and third Thursdays at 7 PM on Zoom. The form is sponsored by Our Revolution MA (ORMA). \nTrees-as-a-Public-Good Network Overview \nTrees as a Public Good (TreesPG) is a network of organizations and individuals committed to preserving and expanding Massachusetts’ tree canopy.\nThe preservation and expansion of tree canopy is a crucial step in mitigating the global warming crisis due to fossil fuel use. Trees are the lungs of the planet\, constantly sequestering carbon from the atmosphere. A robust tree canopy also is fundamental to preserving ecosystems and biodiversity\, and to public health\, including reducing urban heat islands. \nTrees PG focuses on all trees\, in municipalities and forests and on public or private land through education and activism. We serve as a forum for organizations and concerned residents to gain support and develop collaborations to monitor local and state-level plans that advocate the preservation and expansion of Commonwealth tree canopy and oppose unwarranted tree removals and losses. We also coordinate sign-on letters and action alerts that address local/state legislative and administrative processes related to the tree canopy. Going forward\, we plan to develop a database of municipal and state tree oversight processes\, activities\, and best practices in order to promote better legislation and regulations related to trees in light of the climate emergency. \nThe Network convened in Spring 2022 after a forum on trees sponsored by the Climate Crisis working group of Our Revolution Massachusetts (ORMA): A Livable Commonwealth: Trees as a Public Good. \nThe Network meets on Zoom and is open to all who support its purpose. DESCRIPTION:Do you find solace in woods and other wild places? \nWould you like to join a positive\, collaborative campaign that will protect wildlife areas where you live and across the Commonwealth? \nClimate Action Now welcomes individuals and organizations ready to take action to identify and protect priority Wildlands to join our new campaign. Learn about the campaign here\, and sign up for our first campaign planning meeting on December 11 at 6:30pm here. \nClimate Action Now’s Regenerative Farming\, Forests and Food Systems group decided to launch the Wildlands campaign in response to the report Wildlands in New England: Past\, Present\, and Future and because we understand that: \n\nHealthy forests are key for carbon storage\, biodiversity\, regulating planetary systems and our well-being;\nOur state is 60% forested but only 2% has been preserved as Wildlands — much of which lacks permanent protection;\nIn a time when our ecosystem is under assault\, protecting nature is an act of love and a defense of life itself.\n\nWe look forward to seeing you at our first meeting at 6:30pm on December 11th!

SUMMARY:SMART Technical Session on Land Use and Siting - DOER revisions
DESCRIPTION:The Department of Energy Resources (DOER) released a Straw Proposal on July 10\, 2024\, outlining proposed changes to the SMART Program. After extensive stakeholder feedback\, DOER has made revisions to the framework for land use and siting policies in the program. On December 10th from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM\, DOER will host a virtual technical session to share these revisions with stakeholders and collect feedback. The session will include a short presentation followed by collaborative discussion.
