Each monthly Climate Action Now gathering begins with a brief segment on racism, white supremacy and climate justice. These brief segments usually provide a new bit of information/perspective, a stimulus for further thought, and a brief opportunity for participants to reflect and/or share their experiences and views.
These segments are based on four principles:
- Climate change, race, and class are completely intertwined in ways that we are all in the process of coming to understand more deeply.
- Our work to stop the climate crisis must be rooted in deciding that everyone, everywhere matters โ and we are in this together.
- We are part of a larger effort to build a unified, vibrant mass movement for systemic change โ addressing the climate emergency equitably, dismantling white supremacy, and achieving economic justice for all.
- Racism/white supremacy must be dismantled at the systemic level, AND the personal level – healing in our minds through personal work, including reflection on our personal racial experiences, feelings, thoughts, failures, successes, and challenges.
