Our goal is the transition to a future where sources of energy, transportation, and industrial materials do not harm people or pollute the environment. This means sharing the burden for siting equally to avoid impacts on the most vulnerable communities and ecosystems. It relies on the same method that has been successful in stopping dirty fuels: collaboration with a web of allies.
Climate Action Now has supported and stood beside frontline groups, in cities and rural communities, to stop new dirty energy infrastructure projects.
Current Campaigns:
- Partnering with the Springfield Climate Justice Coalition to “Put Gas in the Past” and block the Eversource Pipeline.
- Partnering with the Springfield Climate Justice Coalition to prevent a toxic biomass power plant that threatened environmental justice communities in Springfield.
Recent Successful Campaigns:
- Stopped Columbia Gas pipeline.
- Joined with people from New York to New Hampshire to stop the Kinder Morgan fracked gas pipeline.
Climate Action Now’s educational videos include presentations like the liquid natural gas (LNG) terminal fight on the Louisiana Gulf Coast and research findings on the climate threats of conventional weapons.
The transition to clean energy has unacceptable biodiversity consequences when solar projects threaten forests and farmland with clearing, sensitive ecosystems with sand removal, and downslope residents with flooding. These solar siting dilemmas are being addressed, town-by-town, and through a statewide coalition, Responsible Solar Massachusetts
